African Tribal Mask

This mask was handcrafted in East Africa (Jumuiya). The tribal mask is more of a generic design as opposed to a true tribal statement. It however does capture the essence of Jumuiya communities given that is 100% biodegradable, truly hand carved and painted, plus a minimalistic essence was used to create this statement piece. The lighter section is the inner color of the wood. We are minimalistic when it comes to our creations and designs. People use what is available to create art as opposed to sourcing grand materials that might not necessarily be eco friendly. The back area has a little piece of slitted leather to mount it on the wall. At the end of the day, this piece can literally be tossed on the ground and it will break down and return to dust. A lot of our pieces are made from teak wood. It also is not glazed in any type of chemical. If preferred, this mask can be mounted on a frame or simply hung as is. This piece was purchased directly from artisan traders in order to impact Jumuiya and generate respectable income for those in the arts. Dimensions: 8” long and 3 1/4" wide (at the widest point).
